“The servant of the Lord must not participate in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone [even-tempered, preserving peace, and he must be], skilled in teaching, patient andtolerant when wronged.” (2 Timothy 2:24 AMP)
The Christian is not just a child of God. He is also a servant of God. The service that God called you to is the reconciliation of others to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18 says, “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” Reconciliation of others to God is a service you have been appointed to undertake and therefore, you are God’s servant.
Now, as God’s servant, you are charged with one instruction never to participate in quarrels. It doesn’t matter the shape or context that brought about the quarrel, the Lord says, you cannot quarrel.
Now, it means that when the opportunity to quarrel presents itself, you must disengage immediately. Be quick to apologize or change your tone of voice particularly when it involves other believers. In 1 Corinthians 6:1-2, the Bible says, “Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” Then it goes on to say, “Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?” (1 Corinthians 6:7)
In addition, if a quarrel or argument erupts at work or school, even in public, your recourse should be to deflect and diffuse the situation with a soft word. Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.” Remember, the servant of the Lord MUST not quarrel. When law enforcement officers stop you and become acrimonious, cooperate with them immediately. Matthew 5:25 says, “Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.”
What’s God saying to you today? Refuse to participate in any and every occasion of disputing. The Bible says, “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Phillippians 2:14-15).
Have a great day!
Faith-Filled Confession
I do everything without quarrels or disputes. I am the servant of the Lord. Therefore, I do not quarrel. Rather, I dissolve arguments by the wisdom of God, speaking softly and with great grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen
