“For He made Him who knew no sin to besin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
You are the righteousness of God. This is not a statement to be taken lightly. What this means is that you are living proof that God is righteous. The Bible says in Acts 14:17, “Nevertheless He [God] did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” In the same light, He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He is righteous because through His Son, Jesus, He gave as many as believed in His Son, the right to become children of God. John 1:12-13 says, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Now this is big because it means that there are people who are habituated, possessed and regulated by God such that they are capable of living without sin or any flaw and these people are the evidence of God’s righteousness. Now, if you have ever heard the phrase that “no one is perfect,” it is an incomplete idea that was borrowed from the Bible to try to excuse the shortcomings of human beings. The original idea from the Bible might be found in Ecclesiastes 7:20, which says, “For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.” However, the Christian is capable of living a perfect life without sin. 1 John 3:9 says, “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
The heart of people may be desperately wicked and indiscernible (according to Jeremiah 17:9) but God has shed His love abroad in the hearts of Christians (according Romans 5:5) to signify them as His righteousness. Romans 5:1 AMP says, “Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).” Therefore, you represent a possibility to the rest of humanity. The Prophet Isaiah described you as one designated “To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)
As the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, you are His emblem of equity, a sign that the breach that separated God from humanity has been closed. It’s why when you speak, even though it may sound awkward to the unregenerate man, it leaves a longing in His heart. I mean, how can you authoritatively say that you do not fall sick or that the life of God is in you and not sound strange to the unlearned? In their minds, how can you be so sure that you are speaking to God in His dialect when you speak in tongues? 1 Corinthians 14:22 says, “Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.”
Your very being is a sign that they are not what you are and that’s what it means to embody the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
As you go about your day today, be bold about who you are in Christ. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus capable of living the God-life through your tongue. So use it today to color your day beautifully.
God bless you
