“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17)
The concept of joint-heirs is similar to joint signatories on a bank account because ownership is jointly held. What does this mean? It means that no joint-owner can access the owned asset alone. The asset is only operable when all owners agree to access the owned property. So what is this property that you and Jesus jointly own? Romans 4:13 says, “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” This means that God promised Abraham and his descendants the world for an inheritance. However, the descendants that God included in the promise, were not Abraham’s biological seed but his spiritual seed, through the righteousness of faith.
This spiritual seed is Christ and there is no discrimination. As long as you are born again, you are a seed of Abraham. Galatians 3:29 says, “And if you areChrist’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” You have a stake in this world. This means that you have the right to shape it according to the will of the Father. It also means that all of its resources belong to you by virtue of your status as Abraham’s seed.
The challenge is just as the physical world suffered countless deaths occasioned by certain diseases until their cures were discovered, many joint-heirs with Christ will suffer losses, thefts and defeats because of the lack of information. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” Ignorance is the separating force between the Christian and his or her inheritance in Christ. Galatians 4:1-2 says, “Now I say thatthe heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.”
The slave or child is located by his or her words. In 1 Corinthians 13:11, the Apostle said, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” Growing into your status as a joint-heir with Christ demands that you first put away childish things. 1 Peter 2:1-2 says, “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” James puts it similarly when he writes, “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).
Notice that the putting aside of childish things must happen before any real maturing into your joint-heirship can take place. This means that you must make a decision to grow by first asserting dominion over your flesh and studying the Word of God with a voracious appetite.
God’s will concerning you is that you mature as quickly as possible to take your place if you have yet to do so. Why? The Bible says, “...the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19.) Why does the creation eagerly wait for your emergence? Romans 8:20-21 says, “For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”
You are the hope of the whole world and until you embrace your joint-heirship with Christ, things that contradict Abba’s will in heaven will keep occurring around you.
Arise, shine for your light has come!
Have a great day.
