“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Very often, many aspects of the Bible are considered the Word of God such that it presents an identity crisis among believers in Christ Jesus. It is important to note that the scriptures were given to different groups of people throughout history with different contexts and applications. However, today’s devotional focuses squarely on what the Word of God is to you.
To you, as part of the Body of Christ, the Word of God is that statement from God concerning His plans, pursuits, purposes and provision for you in love. The Word of God to you must always bring you into the frame of God’s love for you as His child, otherwise it is not the Word of God. Ephesians 1:5-6 brings this into full view when it says about the Father as , “having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”
Next, the Word of God must situate you in Christ. The Bible says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This means that everything–plan, pursuit, purpose or provision– in the Bible that doesn’t remotely locate you in Christ is not for you. For example, Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” This is not the Word of God to you. It may help you understand the unregenerate but it does not in any way describe the heart of one that is in Christ. Romans 5:5 on the other hand says that “...the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” So there is no deceit in the heart of a believer, only love. If the scriptures do not situate you in Christ as the New Creation that you are, then it is not the Word of God to you.
Lastly, the Word of God to you is given to you”... by inspiration of God, and isprofitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man [or woman] of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
The Word of God to the believer is not a promise for all the promises of scripture are realized in Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Peter 1:4 tells us that a divine power is infused into us through the knowledge of God’s Word in the form of great and exceedingly precious promises and that by these great and exceedingly precious promises, we function with our divine nature. Search the scriptures and you will realize that in Christ, you are the fulfilment of every promise of God. Therefore, just be who you are and stop struggling. Being starts by doing Philemon 1:6, “... the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
Have a great day!
