"If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:16-17).
Nothing works until you work it. Like the exams you take at school; you do not attain success in your exams just because you prayed for success. Without diligence in your studies, you can expect nothing short of failure. This same principle applies to the Word of God. If you don’t do the Word, the Word will not produce the desired result for you. Mere quoting Scriptures is not enough; your confession must carry a corresponding action if you desire to see the glory of the Word. James 2:17 says, “So you see, faith by itself isn't enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” In other words, confessing without obeying the leading of the Spirit is the highest form of self-deception and laziness. Proverbs 24:33-34 describes it this way: “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.”
Saint, it’s not enough that you received a Word from God; for that Word to produce for you, you must walk in the light of it. You must be willing to listen to the Holy Spirit and obey His instructions because failing to do so makes the Word of no effect in your life; not because the Word is void of creative ability to produce what it talks about, but because the one who has received the Word is out of position. Case in point, in Genesis 26, the Spirit of God gave a word to Isaac that was contrary to both public opinion and the advice of financial experts. Isaac could have complained like others about how terrible things were or he could have moved to Egypt to escape the famine. But he did neither. Rather, he positioned himself aright through obedience. You could say that he was steadfast in obeying the instruction of the Lord even in the midst of the worst recession of his time. Isaac sowed as instructed by the Holy Ghost. And the result was that he reaped in the same year a hundredfold. And the man became rich, and gained more and more until he became very wealthy. But had Isaac not obeyed the Word, his life would have been no different from others who didn’t receive a word from God.
So if God has given you a word, be diligent to do all that the word calls for. Don’t pick and choose which instruction to obey and which one to ignore or disobey. After you have received a word, every instruction from the Spirit is connected to the manifestation of that word. So, pay attention to the little instructions that God gives you. His instructions may sometimes appear insignificant or unrelated to that “big Word” that you received from Him. But you must know that it is all connected. Supply the Word with the required corresponding action as instructed by the Spirit of God.
You are blessed.
Faith-Filled Confession:
My attention is on the Word of God. My ears are inclined to the Words of the Spirit of God. I do not stumble in the dark, for the Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I am set ablaze by the Word; it has consumed all of me and has made me a wonder to my world.
