"Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrew 1:14)
The realm of the spirit is exceptionally organized. Every spirit being functions in and under the authority of the Sovereign Lord, Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:16 says, "For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him."
Today's theme scripture emphasizes the ministry of angels as it relates to their service to us, the heirs of salvation. Now, there are many types of angels who perform specialized purposes in the lives and mandates of individuals, families, churches, and countries. For example, the Bible tells us about Gabriel, an angel that brings glad tidings to certain people (see Luke 1:19).
There are guardian angels in whose guardianship the life of the believers is secure from harm (see Psalm 91:11). There are healing angels whose job is strictly healing (see John 5:4).
But there is another group of angels called the watchers and they are executors of God's judgments and injunctions in favor of the church. In Daniel 4:13, Nebuchadnezzar explains "I saw in the visions of my head while on my bed, and there was a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven." And what was this watcher up to? In Daniel's interpretation of the king's dream, he lets us know, “And inasmuch as the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Chop down the tree and destroy it, but leave its stump and roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze in the tender grass of the field; let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let him graze with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him’; this is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses" (Daniel 4:23-25).
Watchers act as executors of divine judgments, decrees, or injunctions to earthly kings and authority figures, particularly as it relates to the preservation of God's elect. Understand that when it comes to the earthly leaders in your country, your job is not to criticize or judge them if they present shortcomings. Your job is to pray for them according to the scriptures. The watchers' jobs are to act as safeguards for the protection of a faithful church. 2 Timothy 2:1-2 says, "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence." Why are we required to pray rather than criticize them, particularly when they act out of step with the Lord?
Romans 13:1 says, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." When leaders of nations act out of step with the Lord, and the church prays according to the scriptures for them, warnings, injunctions and judgments begin to pile on for that leader, which if they repent and yield to the Lord can be advantageous to the said leader.
Where these leaders are adamant, these watcher angels are dispatched to enact justice as they did to King Herod when he began to persecute the church. "Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him [Herod], because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died" (Acts 12:23).
These angels also bring insights of the future to leaders of countries like they did to Pharaoh about an impending seven years of plenty and seven years of famine (see Genesis 41-29-30) but they work for the exclusive preservation of the church.
Watcher angels are despatched to minister when a church or group of Christians prays consistently with one mind about jurisdictions; when they repent on behalf of others in their territories; when they pray for healing and revival within the borders of a jurisdiction; and when they pray for the governance of the Lord Jesus Christ to be enacted through their leaders. Political and social reconfigurations take place and when these reconfigurations happen, the church prospers greatly in terms of its influence within the territory for which you are interceding.
Pray for your country's government now, thanking God for this message, and ask for the reign of the Lord Jesus Christ to be administered to people in your country through the people He has placed in authority.
Have a blessed day.
Faith-Filled Confession
I am thankful to God for the watchers that He sends from time to time to reconfigure the political and social landscape of the country where I live. This land where I live will know the salvation of Jesus Christ as never before, because the Lord favors us, and gives heed to the offering up of our prayers. Hallelujah!
