For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer." (2 Corinthians 5:14-16)
Christmas is the time of the year when we celebrate the birth of Christ, The question: Which birth do we celebrate at Christmas as the Church? Both, because the life that we have in Christ was beckoned by two births. The first birth happened when Jesus was born and placed in the manger. Luke 2:7 says, "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." The second birth happened at the resurrection."
The Bible says, "And we declare to you glad tidings—that promise which was made to the fathers. God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.’ (Acts 13:32-33). The more important birth for the Church to celebrate was the birth that made us masters over death, the world and the flesh. 1 Corinthians 15: 20, 23 says "But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep...But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming."
What many have mistaken is that Christ only refers to Jesus, and we, the Church, are those who are Christ's at His coming." No. Christ is Jesus and His Church now. Those who would be Christ at His coming are the tribulation saints. Colossians 1:18 says "He [Jesus Christ] is also the head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything." Now, can you separate the head from the body? If you can't, then we are the firstborn from dead with Jesus. This is why the Bible says, "In this [union and fellowship with Him], love is completed and perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him]; because as He is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17AMP).
Christmas is a celebration of being born alongside Jesus for He was born again like we were. The Bible declares that we are "...children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together." (Romans 8:17). Now, we who are born again, are joint heirs because when He suffered, we suffered, when He died, we died and when He was raised, we were together with Him, we mustn't act like co-heirs. The Bible declares that if Jesus went through what He went through for us, then we went through death, hell and the grave in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:14 says, "For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died."
Christmas is our day. It is the day to celebrate the emergence of the new creation. Without Jesus, we have no identity in heaven and without us, He has no identity on earth. This is why it is our day for us to reaffirm that in the name of Jesus, as holders of His power of attorney , anything is possible for us.
So when you wish someone Merry Christmas during these holidays, let these be the thoughts that impregnate those words; that we emerged one new creation in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!
Merry Christmas.
