THE LIFE IN CHRIST: A LIFE OF MORAL EXCELLENCE

Grace Daily Devotional

12/11/2024

"As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him." (Psalm 18:30 BSB)

The reflection of anything  you see in a mirror is determined by the image placed in front of  that mirror. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." What does this say about you that have been born again? It says that you are the glory of the Lord because that is the reflection that the mirror of the Word  gives back when you look at it. Hallelujah !

Now, the Bible says that God's way is perfect, meaning that like your Father, your way too is perfect. But what is referred to as God's way? God's  way refers to His way of life; how God chooses, acts and conducts Himself. This is your way too. Then, the Bible says the word of the LORD is flawless and that He is a shield to all those who take refuge in Him. Again, this is you. Your words, based on the life that you have in Christ,  ought to be flawless and you also ought to be a refuge to everybody in your care. One time, Paul was in a shipwreck with others and he said to the men  with whom he was shipwrecked, "And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship" (Acts 27:22). He was a refuge to everyone  on that ship in the exact way you ought to be to the people in your world.

But how could Paul  make such a statement? He lived a life of moral excellence. Moral excellence in the way Jesus lived was also how He accomplished His mission to save the world. The  Bible says about Jesus: "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:15).

Yes, when you hear moral excellence, you may think about holy personal conduct but moral excellence begins in your mouth. James 3:2 says, "...If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body." To stumble in words means to sin with your speech. Now the person in Christ does not sin, not because he or she cannot sin but because it is not in the nature of the born again believer to sin. 1 John 3:9 says, "Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God."

Since you have a life that is incompatible with sin that you activate through words, and since this incompatibility  with sin is actually connected to the salvation and wellbeing of others in your sphere of contact, living your life with moral excellence is not a suggestion but a requirement. Declare over and over that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Declare that sin has no dominion over you and let these words begin to orient your conduct. The God-life is lived, first from your tongue. So, speak the word of God copiously as often as you can.

Have a great day.

Faith-Filled Confession

I live the God-life, a life of honor and grace. I think, talk and act in conformity to the life of God that dwells in me, knowing that as the Father has life in Himself, so do I. I am the express image of my Father’s person. Hallelujah!
