TAKE A LEAP ON THE WORD

Grace Daily Devotional

"Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus" Matthew 14:29

In Matthew 14:25-29, we see Jesus extend an invitation to Peter to walk on water. At first, Jesus' disciples thought that they had seen a ghost. They thought for sure, "only ghosts walk on water." The Bible says that they were terrified and cried out screaming, “It is a ghost!” One can only imagine what thoughts crossed their minds as this transpired. First, there was the storm that left them concerned about their lives; they weren't sure if they were going to live or die. And now, they see what appears to be a ghost walking toward them in the midst of the sea.

Just before they could make the unwise decision of jumping off the boat, Jesus said, “Take courage! It is I. Fear not.” I would not be surprised if one of the disciples said after hearing His voice, “He walks on water now? I am done! I am going home to my family. Who knows what He will do next?”

While all this was going on, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You upon the waters.” I can only imagine what religious folks in his day would have thought had they been on the boat that day. Some probably would have thought, "Not Peter again! Did he just ask to walk on water? Is this one of your shows? Peter, what is wrong with you? Have you considered your family? If you are going to be crazy enough to get out of the boat, pay me my money first so that I don't have to worry about that when you drown."

Jesus gave that divine invitation to Peter saying, “Come.” "And Peter having descended from the boat, walked upon the water and came to Jesus" (Matthew 14:29). Jesus' invitation was an opportunity not just for Peter, but for all of the disciples on that boat. He offered an invitation to leap into the supernatural with Him, and when Peter accepted that step of faith to walk on water, he leaped from the natural into the supernatural. And that is what the Lord is calling for. He is calling for something greater than you are used to--something supernatural.

He is calling you to walk in love; demonstrating forgiveness, compassion, service, and generosity. He is calling you to prayer and to soul-winning. What is your response to Him today?  I pray that you will not hesitate but respond immediately. Like Peter, let go of the earthly considerations and take a leap with Christ today.

Have a Blessed day.

Faith-filled Confession:

I refuse to recognize any limitations. I align my thoughts and tongue with the Word of God;  I speak forth the Word alone and my experience is consistent with the Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
