“Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs” (2 Corinthians 2:10-11).
There is a consciousness that we must maintain as people who have been made new in Christ. And it is the consciousness of the Father's love being poured forth in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. This consciousness of being the reproduction of God's love is an absolute necessity, and until we grasp the immensity of this revelation, we will not know the true meaning of the divine life.
Jesus said, “...Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other”( John 13:34). Jesus wouldn't demand that we love with the same quality of love as He loved us if it were not possible. In essence, Jesus was highlighting a distinction in the way the world loves and in the way that we are to love. The people of the world do not have the nature of love. But we do—we were born of Love, and our love nature allows us to forgive quickly.
We have an adversary who will stop at nothing if given the opportunity to devour all that belongs to us. One of his tools to wreak havoc is bitterness and unforgiveness. Do you realize how many sicknesses stem from unforgiveness? So many of God's people are weak and die because they have failed to understand the power of forgiveness, and I'm speaking of true forgiveness—one that comes from the heart.
Forgiveness is something that we must be proactive about gifting--don't wait for someone else to make the move. Besides, you stand to benefit first from walking in forgiveness. It unlocks your health, prosperity, transformation, growth, progress, success, and all that Grace has made available to you in Christ.
In 1 John 2:10, the Bible says, "He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.” The Greek word for stumbling is skandalon, from which we derive the word scandal. This word is associated with failure, defeat, and misery. So when 1 John 2:10 says that there is no occasion of stumbling for the one that walks in love, the Spirit was offering a strategy against failure, defeat, and misery.
Your adversary knows that he is limited when you demonstrate love in forgiveness. And so what does he do? He plays those hurtful words and images of things that were said and done to you. He does this to keep you in unforgiveness, which in turn will pollute your health, vision, and cause you to break the hedge so that he can legally come in and do as he pleases. But love demonstrated in forgiveness is an offensive weapon against his works.
So don't sleep on forgiveness. Do it quickly. Say out loud, “I forgive so and so in the name of Jesus Christ. And I declare that I love you in the name of Jesus.” Ephesians 4:32, the Message translation says, “Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you." In 2 Corinthians 2:10-11, the Apostle said, “Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive... so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.”
God Bless You!
