“Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)
There is a way that God forgives and you already know how to forgive like God. However, for the purpose of bringing it into your consciousness, God forgives and when He forgives, He also forgets. Hebrews 8:10-12 says, “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall not teach, each his neighbor, and each his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because all will know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
In other words, the love of God has been shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Spirit so that when you forgive others, you can also exercise the capacity to forget and never refer to the offence again. Now that’s maturity.
But capacity is not vitality. Just because you can forgive as God forgives doesn't mean you are going to act this way. You see, it takes faith to forgive others. Mark 11:25 says, “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” In other words, forgiving others is an exercise of faith in receiving forgiveness from God.
Matthew 6:14-15 buttresses this. It says,“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
So the next time someone hurts or offends you, just forgive them, whether or not, they apologize or ask for forgiveness for this God’s way. How do we know this? The Bible says, “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23). It means that God’s mode of operation is to extend His compassion everyday. That’s why He says to you: “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath…” (Ephesians 4:26).
Never let a grievance go unsettled or unforgiven past a day! Forgive as God does because you can and when He forgives, He forgets too. So if there’s someone, you are yet to forgive, get in line today and let that person free in the name of Jesus Christ.
I know that so much joy will be released into you soul when you do so.
Have a great day.
Faith-Filled Confession
I forgive as God forgives because I and my Father are one. I hold no grudges or offenses and when grudges and offenses come, I am quick to forgive in Jesus’ name. Never will the sun set on while I am in a state of discord or anger. Hallelujah!
