“Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits” (Psalm 103:1-2)
For someone—anyone, actually—who has been storming the gates of heaven with a petition about something you want, the message of today’s devotional is for you: focus on the Benefactor and not the benefits.
God is saying you have made the things you have been asking for an idol, and it’s time to set it down and focus on Me. In essence, don’t let the things you are asking the Lord for become the things that distract you from actually engaging with Him.
Worship and praise Him despite the seemingly unresolved situation or unmanifested answer. The Bible says, "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us" (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Saint, you have got to maintain the posture of the prophet, Habakkuk who said, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3: 17-18).
Set aside the prayer points because God has already dealt with them and make the Lord your priority through worship and praise. Say nice things to the Lord. Recall the wonders He has done in times past and just love on Him this week.
Recognize that this is God’s will for you at this time. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV says, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Let today and the rest of the week be for you a time of undistracted praise and worship of the Lord.
Finally, I will show you a mystery. Luke 17:14-15 BSB says, “When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests. “And as they were on their way, they were cleansed. When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice.”
As our Day of Bliss draws closer, let the intensity of your focus on God in praise and worship increase.
Have a blessed day.
Faith-Filled Confession
My heart is fixed on you, oh Lord. Let my contemplations of your love and mercy be to you a sweet smelling sacrifice. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
