"No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15)
The concept of friendship in the Bible implies a relationship by which the Kingdom of God advances in the life of any individual. Jesus called His disciples friends after a while of praying and sharing the mysteries of the Kingdom with them. Essentially, your friends should be those with whom you pray and study the Bible, on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Three aspects of every biblical friendship must involve, praying together, sharing the word in study or prophecy and being fruitful in the areas of soul winning and soul development.
In 2 Thessalonians 3:1, the Bible declares, "Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you." The only way the word of the Lord spreads like wildfire is when you pray for and with your friends. If you are going to become friendly with anyone, let setting each other on fire for the Lord be the objective of your friendship. Set a time to pray with the ones you call your friends at least once or twice weekly.
Second, study the Bible together and exhort one another. Hear me, God is more likely to give you a word for a friend for whom or with whom you are praying. Hebrews 3:12-13 says, "Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." Talk daily about Jesus, read the devotional together and expound on it with your friend and regularly share insights from the Bible with each other.
Lastly, let the Lord minister His ideas to you during prayer and Bible time. Every friendship in your life ought to be producing something as long as that friendship is subject to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. There are churches, businesses, innovations and families that God would like to start with friendships done the Bible way.
Many have yet to explore this concept of Biblical friendship but it was the principle that saw the church in Jerusalem multiply . Acts 2:46-47 says, "So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved."
Get busy doing friendship the Bible way. God bless you.
